Program Overview:

Greencorps offers seven to nine months of employment and on-the-job training in ecological restoration, green infrastructure, tree care, and landscaping. Training happens both in the classroom and in the field with the Chicago Park District, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, and other project partners. Graduates of the Greencorps program have gone on to work for major companies such as Cardno, Christy Webber, Safety Kleen and AES. Typical job titles include Landscape Maintenance Foreman, Restoration Technician, Driver, Groundskeeper, Pesticide Applicator, and Hazardous Material Technician.

Professional Certifications:

Greencorps trainees are offered a number of professional certifications including:

– First Aid/CPR
– HAZWOPER
– OSHA 10-Hour Safety Standards
– Chicago Wilderness/Midwest Prescription Burn
– and Illinois Pesticide Certification

Support for Success:

Once you join Greencorps Chicago, staff will work with you to set goals and help you address any barriers preventing you from being successful at work. After graduation, Greencorps identifies positive placement matches and continues with post placement follow-up to address any workplace issues that may arise.
