Greencorps Chicago is a paid green-industry employment program with on-the-job training focused on preparing participants for successful employment in fields of ecological restoration, green infrastructure, tree care, and landscaping.

The model is rooted in education and reinforced with experience on real-world projects. The classroom training is intensive in the early stages of the program as trainees gain the knowledge and skills required to work on projects. The knowledge learned in training is then applied and continually reinforced on projects throughout the Chicagoland region. Along the way trainees can also earn industry recognized certifications such as:

• Defensive Driving
• First Aid and CPR
• HAZWOPER
• OSHA 10 Hour General Safety Standards
• Chicago Wilderness/Midwest Prescription Burn
• IL Pesticide License

Additionally, Greencorps’ participants are empowered through professional development training integrated into the classroom lessons and field projects as supervisors provide constructive feedback on technical skills and work performance. Through case management and wrap-around social services offered, each participant establishes personal and professional goals (obtaining a driver’s license, GED, etc.) to obtain during the program. This program model enables participants to successfully overcome barriers to employment, complete the program, and pursue viable career opportunities with Greencorps assistance.
