Greencorps Terra Firma is a green industry, employment and training opportunity for people looking to work outside and create positive change in their lives and communities.  Our training includes hands-on, outdoor projects, as well as indoor training and certifications to advance the career paths of our trainees. 

We are committed to investing in people with barriers to employment including: people who are justice involved, have gaps in employment, and/or lack education or experience.

Terra Firma’s goal is to reinvest in the communities of Bronzeville, Grand Boulevard, Washington Park, Woodlawn, Greater Grand Crossing, South Shore, and South Chicago by maintaining and improving community gardens, public spaces, and vacant land.

In 2021, we improved over 25 acres of vacant or community managed land by:

  • Removing  7725 lbs of weeds and woody materials
  • Pruning 82 urban street trees
  • Planting 6 trees and hundreds of spring bulbs
  • Building raised bed gardens in previously vacant lots
  • Moving over 50 cubic yards of soils
  • Removing of 8210 lbs of garbage

Greencorps Terra Firma aids community gardens located within our region by providing garden cleanup services, tree care services, assistance with planting and other laborious tasks, soil and mulch deliveries, and basic construction services.
